  1. Is use of AI allowed for this course with appropriate uses identified?
    1. If yes, AI has a place in the course, proceed to Step 2.
    2. If no, AI is prohibited or not mentioned, student proceeds with work without using AI.
      1. If student uses AI for coursework despite its prohibition and/or restrictions, proceed to Step 4.

  1. Instructor suspects or identifies use of AI.
  2. Instructor evaluates standards and student work.
    1. Instructor refers to Academic Honesty Violation Information for Instructors (reporting flowchart and steps) as well as departmental guidance.
  3. Instructor discusses this concern with student and considers a resolution.
    1. Will the resolution affect the student’s grade?
      1. If yes, instructor finishes investigating the violation, communicates their decision and sanction to student, and files a violation form.
        1. Office of Academic Integrity contacts student and informs them of training requirements.
        2. Student may refer to Academic Honesty Violation Information for Students (flowchart and steps on responding to alleged violation) as well as the advice outlined in Academic Uses of AI for Students.
      2. If no, the incident is resolved at the instructor’s discretion.
