The Power BI Desktop is the complete report authoring tool for report designers. It is downloaded as a free application and installed on a local computer. The desktop allows you to connect to different types of data sources and then transform it in a data model. The final part of the report creation process is to add visuals based on the data model.

Power BI Desktop is a free application that you can use it to transform and model your data, create dynamic measures, and build interactive reports. It is available in all College of Business and Economics computer labs. If you have administrative rights on your personal computer, you are able to download this file directly from Microsoft and install it on your own. 

Please note: The Power BI Free license version has some limitations compared to Power BI Pro. Learn more about the differences in features. A free user license for the Power BI service is perfect for someone exploring or using it for personal data analysis and visualizations using My workspace. A free standalone user cannot use Power BI to collaborate with colleagues within the Power BI app, although they can share a visualization as PDF or PowerPoint slide.
