Canvas quiz best practices
When taking a quiz, Canvas saves responses as a student progresses. Canvas can only record question response data as long as the student is online. If a student “goes offline,” his or her quiz responses will be saved up to the moment before the lost connection. If there is an interruption in consistent wireless connectivity or if a computer loses power, Canvas will allow the student back in to resume their quiz (if there is time still remaining for the quiz), but the student's manually-entered quiz responses may not be saved if a student is on a question when the internet outage or disruption occurs. Unfortunately, the immediate autosave feature one experiences with Google Docs does not necessarily apply to the Canvas quiz-taking experience.
To help decrease the possibility of Canvas not saving quiz responses, it is recommended that students compose essay responses in a text file such as Microsoft Word, TextEdit, or Notepad so they can simply copy/paste their response into the essay field. If there is an interruption in wireless, and their response was not saved in Canvas, they still have their original response on their device and won’t lose time taking a quiz to re-compose their response.
