Anti-Spam Restrictions on Student Email Accounts

Anti-Spam Restrictions on Student Accounts

In order to protect Western students, faculty, and staff from phishing, spam, and other malicious emails sent from compromised accounts, ITS enforces a limit on the amount of emails a student email account can send in one hour.

This limit is 200 recipients within one hour.

If you exceed that limit, even for a legitimate reason, the email system will block your account from sending any more email until the following day. This block cannot be removed early by ITS staff.

Furthermore, although configuring an automatic forward on your Western email account is allowed, we discourage the configuration as compromised accounts often leverage malicious use of this feature.

If you have a legitimate need to send email to more than 200 recipients in an hour, please contact the ATUS Help Desk for assistance.
