Heroic Video Session Showcases Western People

Dennis Dashiell and Sarah Crawford from Western's Human Resources Department learned about the Public Service Recognition Week Video Contest in early March. They were eager to have WWU enter, but the contest deadline was only two weeks away. There were hesitant until Robert B. Clark, ATUS Acting Digital Media Center Manager suggested recording the interviews in Western's new DMC.

Dennis and Sarah invited a group of willing folks from across campus to be interviewed. In short order, Kate Stevenson, Enrique Castro, Ted Pratt, Max Bronsema, Maria Paredes Mendez, and June Fraser Thistle were sitting in front of the green screen wall in the DMC. Several student staff ran audio and monitored the recording while Sarah herself learned a new job skill by running a professional studio camera for the first time.

The interviews went smoothly, but by they time the last interviewee was scheduled and taped there was only one day to edit the video. Robert edited as fast as he could and beat the deadline with ten minutes to spare.

On April 28 Western's video was selected out of 130 entries as one of the top 10 winners in the statewide contest. The video is on the PSRW website and was also be featured at the Why Washington? Employee Value Proposition booth at the PSRW event in Olympia on the Plaza on May 4.

In addition, Western's video team will also have the opportunity to meet with Governor Jay Inslee at the Executive Residence in the near future.
