September 2025 Microsoft Licensing Changes

This September Microsoft will be deprecating one of the licenses we have used to license certain account types. As a result, some accounts will be licensed differently.  Account types affected are listed below:

• NTT faculty
• Staff with “light” computer use, such as certain custodial or trades positions
• Emeritus faculty
• Accounts for non-employee/non-student users (such as contractors, research assistants, and volunteers)
• Generic/departmental accounts

All students, all active Tenured/Tenure-Track Faculty, and most other employees will not be affected.

This change is likely to go unnoticed by most, as access to email on the web, OneDrive files, SharePoint files and access to the Microsoft Apps on the web will remain unchanged. Following this change, affected accounts will no longer be able to use the locally installed desktop versions of the Microsoft Office suite.
