Phishing Example: REFERRAL 9/25/2024

Western accounts were sent a phishing email with the subject REFERRAL from a Gmail account containing a word document named PRESENTATIONXX.docx.

The contents of this document solicit a false job as a personal assistant with a link to a site with the intent of gathering personal information. 

Items of suspect are the subject, the sender and an unsolicited word document containing a job opportunity. All of these things together would indicate this is a phishing attack looking to harvest your personal information. 

Please be mindful of email coming from addresses outside of Western, unsolicited attachments, and links to google forms. If you receive mail like this, you may report it directly to our Information Security Office.
