Canvas Authentication Change: Sign-in with your WWU Office 365 Cloud Username

In order to make logging in more secure and reliable, the Canvas learning management system will soon be moving to the same login system as Office 365.

As of June 15th, all faculty, staff, and students will sign into Canvas on the same login page you already see for Office 365.

Please note:  Instead of logging in with just your username, you will soon sign in to Canvas using your "cloud" username (username@wwu.edu) from the Microsoft Office 365 sign-in page.

When you click the Canvas link in myWestern, or type canvas.wwu.edu into a web browser, you will see the following Microsoft sign-in page:

Microsoft Office 365 Sign-In Page

After you enter your username@wwu.edu you will be redirected to a Western-branded sign-in page:

WWU Office 365 Sign-In Page

Enter your WWU universal password to sign in to Canvas.

Additional Information

Previously we used the WWU Universal Login page to allow single-sign-on for Canvas.

WWU Universal Login Page

The new Microsoft sign-in page has the advantage of signing you into multiple apps simultaneously. You will only need to enter your password one time to access Canvas, your Office 365 apps (Outlook, OneDrive, OneNote, Word, etc.), and G Suite for WWU (Google Apps). You will be able to access Canvas from the link on myWestern, directly from canvas.wwu.edu, or by signing into Office 365 and launching the Canvas tile from the Office 365 App Grid.
