A configuration change to Western's wireless networks will mean greater security for our internal network and services. The firewall between our wireless network and the internal campus network will continue to allow wireless users to connect to most campus services. If you experience difficulty accessing a server or service that you previously could access from the wireless network, please notify the ATUS Help Desk at email@example.com.
Beware of fake meeting notifications that may ask you to click on a link and then sign-in on a bogus WWU universal login page. We are continuing to monitor these phishing campaigns and block the remote malicious websites. CampusWeb is back online. Sites hosted on CampusWeb, including Western's home page at http://www.wwu.edu were unavailable earlier today. During the outage visitors saw a maintenance page with links to some available sites and services.
Our Internet Service Provider K20 will be updating security software to protect against Denial of Service attacks. While not expected, this maintenance work has the potential to impact campus Internet access between the hours of 10:00 PM and Midnight on Wednesday, August 10th.
A phishing message was first sent to hundreds of Western mailboxes around July 31st that contains the Subject Service - Help Desk and appears to come from firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com. Last week there were additional copies of this message sent to hundreds more. Do not click the link! Please delete this message from your inbox. These links are being blocked from Western's network, but if you click one of these links before the block is in place, and you were taken to a login web page: Please contact the ATUS Help Desk at x3333 for assistance. In preparation for the move from SharePoint 2013 to SharePoint Online, SharePoint 2013 was down from 8:00pm to about 10:00pm on Sunday evening, July 10.
Updated 7/12/16 8:00 AM: All telephones on campus should now be functional. The outage occurred Thursday afternoon and impacted roughly 1,000 phones on campus in 11 different buildings. University Police Dispatch phones were also affected, but service was restored to them by 9 a.m. Friday morning. Skype for Business Enterprise Voice (VOIP) telephones were not affected.
